The appointment system
The appointment system we operate is a balance between access to medical care within 48 hours and patient choice. It provides different forms of access to try to accommodate the needs of most patients.
Unless urgent, please avoid calling at peak times (8:15-10am and 5pm - 6pm each day). Instead use Patient Access which can be access 24 hours a day.
The release of appointments is staggered so than some are available weeks in advance and the remainder are released on Friday for the coming Monday and Tuesday, and on Monday for the remaining week.
We will always try to give you the GP of your choice but this is not always possible on the day of your appointment. If you feel you wish to see a particular GP you may have to wait longer than usual. Alternatively you can use Patient Access to make your booking to select your chosen GP.
Are available with GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners from 8:00am until 12:30 pm.
There is always significant demand for the practice to provide appointments. Please inform the surgery as soon as possible, at least 24 hours in advance if you no longer require, or are unable to attend your appointment so it can be allocated to another patient.
This service is for acute problems (ongoing for less than a week). Please telephone the surgery between 8am and 11:00 am. You will need to give us an idea of the problem and, if it cannot be dealt with over the telephone, you will be given an approximate time to come to the surgery.
A GP or nurse practitioner will see you and will deal with one acute problem. Please be aware there may be a lengthy wait on some occasions. If a clinician feels that your problem is not acute you will be asked to book a routine appointment. The acute clinic is not set up for ongoing, chronic, conditions.
Extended Hours Clinic
Face-to-face clinics will be held from 6.30 - 7.30 pm on Thursday evenings in surgery. On other evenings during the week GPs will offer telephone consultations from 6.30 - 7.30 pm.
Generally GPs will deal with only one problem during your ten minute consultation. Multiple problems will require longer appointments, but the clinician will decide how much time to allocate for the consultation, in order to ensure parity of treatment for all patients.
Consideration is always given to a patients’ privacy and all consulting rooms have curtained areas for undressing. During routine appointment times patients’ may request a chaperone where examination involves intimate areas
